Heritage Conversion - Office to Residential

Bath, Somerset

This project included the conversion of existing office space into a number of large high-end apartments including penthouse. The existing heritage building in Bath, Somerset, was previously a tram shed, housing the network of trams that historically served the city.

Stunning views overlook the world heritage city from the new roof terraces. As residential architects Bath offers a wonderful variety of opportunities to create exciting living spaces. On this heritage project we were involved through all stages from concept design to technical drawings and construction on site. Further work included preparation of planning application drawings for a phase 2 rooftop extension.

At ground floor level a retail and café space is retained, making use of the existing curtain wall glass. A landscaped seating area is provided outside serving the café and serving as a showroom for garden furniture.
The existing entrance canopy roof and fascias were refreshed with new powder coated aluminium.
Several new rooftop terraces were created serving the high level apartments, providing stunning views over the world heritage city of Bath.
The private terraces are furnished with high quality decking and bespoke glass balustrades and privacy screens.
Working with the developers own interior design team we created a series of luxurious living spaces for each apartment. Residential architects such as ourselves are experts in creating beautiful and functional environments.
This penthouse apartment features a fantastic open plan kitchen, dining and living space. Unique sloping glass windows give panoramic views over the city.
Bedrooms were organised efficiently between the existing window panels. Built in storage is provided along with thoughtful use of internal finishes.
Bespoke kitchens were provided by the developer client with carefully planned lighting design adding the finishing touches.
Many of the bedroom spaces are provided with their own private rooftop terraces and fantastic views.
Large bathrooms and ensuites furnish many of apartments. Use of high quality materials and sensitive selection of finishes by the skilled interior design team completes the look.
The floor layout is arranged efficiently around the existing grid system of the building, making the best use of existing windows, stairs and lifts to reduce the intervention required to the existing period property. For a building with this heritage
